Manchester United vs Brighton Prediction & Betting Tips - Premier League
by Joseph King | in Premier League Predictions
The long international break is over and the Premier League is back with matchday five as 11th-place Manchester United host sixth-place Brighton. It certainly hasn’t been the start to the season that United fans will have been hoping for. Marred by controversy off the pitch, the Red Devils have not been able to placate the supporters with their on field results. They’ll now face off against one of the upstarts of the 2023/24 campaign in Brighton and Hove whose matches have become must-see TV. The visitors are certainly winning over the neutrals with their high-octane style of play which produces back-and-forth, high-scoring matches. Will they be able to keep up the pace at a ground where many failed to win last season?

Manchester United - Brighton: Form Analysis
Manchester United return to Old Trafford following a 3-1 away defeat at the hands of Arsenal. It would have been a particularly frustrating result for Erik ten Hag’s men who conceded the equalizer just a minute after taking the lead through a Marcus Rashford strike. After a Garnacho goal was narrowly ruled offside in the 89th minute, United would concede the eventual winner through a set piece deep into stoppage time. The result means that the hosts have two wins and two losses from their first four outings. They have already seen a six point gap form between themselves and leaders Manchester City, as well as a four point gap to the current top four. Apart from 45 minutes against Spurs, Manchester United have largely failed to impress this season.
As for the visiting Brighton, their three wins from the first four games has them sitting just one point off the top four in sixth-place. The Seagulls recovered brilliantly after a 3-1 defeat to West Ham with a statement 3-1 win over Newcastle in their last appearance. There’s no shortage of action when watching a Brighton match this season as the visitors lead the league in goals scored with 12 strikes. Their average of 4.50 total goals per match is also the second-highest in the Premier League. Three of Brighton’s first four games have come at the AMEX meaning this will be their first real test on the road. Their only prior away match up to this point was a dominant 4-1 win over Wolves which saw Brighton create five clear cut scoring chances.

Manchester United & Brighton Squad Analysis
Erik ten Hag has a number of selection headaches given the litany of unavailable players that the club are dealing with at the moment. They come into this fixture with as many as 10 players missing out. Key defender Raphael Varane misses out while Lisandro Martinez may struggle to be fit for this clash after his injury vs Arsenal. That means United will likely have to call upon a pairing of Lindelof and Maguire to lead the backline. Mason Mount is a long-term absence while right winger Antony has taken leave from the club due to his concerning potential legal troubles. New signing Sofyan Amrabat, who recently joined from Fiorentina, suffered a back injury and will miss out.
Brighton manager Roberto De Zerbi has far fewer problems to worry about as only three names currently populate Brighton’s injury list. Julio Enciso is going to miss an extended period of time and midfielder Jakub Moder has been ruled out of the trip up north as well. Brighton will be hoping that breakout star Evan Ferguson will be available following his superb hat trick against Newcastle before the international break. The Republic of Ireland striker has been tipped as a potential future transfer for Manchester United. The 18-year-old would surely love to come up with a big performance at Old Trafford.

Our Manchester United vs Brighton Prediction
Manchester United simply haven’t played well enough to be this big of a favorite over one of the league’s most impressive teams to start the season. Brighton's high-pressing style and high-octane style has the potential to cause United some massive problems. This will be even more pronounced with the hosts’ lining up with the underwhelming duo of Lindelof and Maguire at the back. This should be a match which sees plenty of goals in what is sure to be a can’t miss encounter at Old Trafford. Our Manchester United vs Brighton prediction is for Brighton on the double chance.
Manchester United vs Brighton - Other Interesting Predictions
Both teams to score + over 2.5 goals
Brighton matches have seen plenty of goals this season and we expect that to continue here. The bet of both teams to score + over 2.5 goals has come through in all four of their games up to this point. United’s defense has been worrying as of late and they’ve seen this bet also come through in their last two appearances.
Brighton to win
Brighton proved last season that they can not only beat Manchester United, but win at this ground. In fact, the only defeat on home soil for the Red Devils in the league last season came against this team. With the hosts full of problems both on and off the pitch, the stage looks set for an upset here.
