Manchester United vs Brentford Prediction & Betting Tips - Premier League
by Joseph King | in Premier League Predictions
10th-place Manchester United play host to 14th-placed Brentford for matchday eight in the Premier League. Following back-to-back home defeats in the league and the UCL, manager Erik ten Hag is in desperate need of a win. Pressure is mounting on the Dutchman as the Red Devils have experienced their worst ever start to a Premier League season. Brentford, meanwhile, have also stumbled out of the gate after their top-half finish last year.

Manchester United - Brentford: Form Analysis
A 3-2 loss to Galatasaray means that Manchester United have now lost back-to-back games at Old Trafford for the first time since 2021. United looked to have turned a corner after wins and two clean sheets over Burnley and Palace, the latter occurring in the EFL Cup. However, they would then lose 1-0 to Roy Hodgson’s Crystal Palace followed up by the aforementioned loss to Galatasaray in their last outing. The result is Man United managing just nine points from their first 10 league fixtures. This equals the start that Solskjaer’s team had in 2019/20 but this current iteration of Manchester United has a much worse-off goal differential. The hosts have now suffered defeat in five of their last seven matches across all competitions. They currently sit nine points behind league leaders Manchester City.
Brentford haven’t had the ideal start to the season either as Thomas Frank’s men currently occupy 14th in the standings. This has the Bees just three points above the relegation zone but only two points off the top-half as well. Brentford have found it hard converting on the full three points as they’ve managed just one win and four draws in their seven matches so far. The latest result, a 1-1 away draw against Nottingham Forest, was particularly disappointing. Brentford were unable to hold onto a 1-0 lead following a goal two minutes after Forest had a player sent off. Brentford’s only win of the league season so far came on the road, a 3-0 win over Fulham in mathday two.

Manchester United & Brentford Squad Analysis
Injuries certainly haven’t helped Erik ten Hag as he tries to right the Manchester United ship. The team received even more bad news as Lisandro Martinez will now miss at least the rest of 2023 with his previously suffered foot injury. Alongside Martinez, the defense will also be without Luke Shaw, Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Tyrell Malacia with Sergio Reguilon also questionable. With the Red Devils struggling to keep out goals, missing their first-choice central defender and three (potentially four) fullbacks certainly won’t do them any favors. Jadon Sancho will also miss out as his falling out with the manager seems to be untenable.
Thomas Frank also has a number of injury concerns to deal with. Brentford look set to have no less than seven players missing out on the trip to Manchester. Rico Henry is perhaps the biggest miss for the visitors as the 26-year-old defender has started five games for the Bees. Ivan Toney continues to serve his suspension which still has three months remaining. Also unavailable are Mikkel Damsgaard, Josh Dasilva, Ben Mee, Kevin Schade and Shandon Baptiste.

Our Manchester United vs Brentford Prediction
A third straight loss for Manchester United on home soil could very well lead to a complete crisis at the club. Things appear to be hanging on by a thread for the hosts considering all of the off-the-field drama they’ve undergone in the still young season. While the feeling is that ten Hag has the backing of the board, a loss here might well change that sentiment. With all that being said, we still like Man United to respond with a win. They have the benefit of playing a Brentford team that has been leaking goals and hasn’t looked quite right in 2023/24. Our Manchester United vs Brentford prediction is for Man United to win.
