Manchester City and Sevilla will kick off this season’s European club campaign when they meet on Wednesday in the UEFA Super Cup. The match will be played in Piraeus Greece and will be City’s first time contesting for the trophy. For Sevilla, they have been here more than once and this will be the seventh time they are competing in this final. Both teams are however pretty familiar with each other. They have met four times with City claiming victory in every one of those encounters.

Manchester City - Sevilla: Form Analysis
Manchester City are making their Super Cup debut thanks to their historic Champions League win last season. City defeated Inter Milan 1-0 in the final slightly more than two months ago. This saw them lift Europe’s premier club competition for the first time in the club’s history. They will now hope to replicate this success and add the Super Cup to a loaded trophy cabinet. Pep Guardiola’s men arrive for this match after an emphatic start to their domestic league campaign. The Cityzens won 3-0 away to promoted Burnley on matchday one of the new English Premier League season. This result saw them get back to winning ways after losing two consecutive games. One of those defeats was against Spanish La Liga opposition in the form of Atletico Madrid in pre-season. City have a 100% record against Sevilla as they have won all four encounters between them. The reigning English champions won both group fixtures in last season’s Champions League campaign.
Sevilla lost three matches in the group stages of last season’s Champions League campaign. Two of those were against City. They finished third in their group and were demoted to the Europa League. Here they would dominate as it has become synonymous with them in Europe’s second-tier club competition. Los Nervionenses would go on to win the title by defeating AS Roma on post-match penalties after a 1-1 draw. This was Sevilla’s seventh Europa League crown, a tournament record. Los Rojiblancos have however not dominated in the Super Cup as they have done in the Europa Cup. They have managed only one win in the final which was in 2006 against fellow La Liga side Barcelona. Jose Luis Mendilibar’s charges arrive for this match struggling with inconsistency. They are without a win in the last two matches. Last time out, Sevilla began their Spanish domestic league campaign with a 2-1 loss at home to Valencia. But as they have scored in every single one of their last 13 matches, winning six times, they will be confident against City.
