Manchester City vs Red Star Belgrade Prediction & Betting Tips - Champions League
by Steve Ashfield | in Champions League Predictions
Manchester City begin the defence of their Champions League title. They host Crvena Zvezda (also known as Red Star Belgrade) in Group G with the two other teams to play being RB Leipzig and Young Boys. City waited so long to finally win the Champions League as part of the treble they achieved last season. The last thing they will want is to make a poor start to the defence of their European crown and that does look unlikely, particularly on home soil. This new 2023-24 league season has already seen them in top form with no losses over 90 minutes and at the top of the Premier League with a 100 per cent record to date. The Blues will be confident of starting their Champions League campaign with a convincing home win over Crvena Zvezda. The visitors are not at their best on their European travels, especially when they come up against a top team and that of course is exactly what Manchester City continue to be.

Manchester City - Red Star Belgrade: Form Analysis
Manchester City won 3-1 at West Ham United on Saturday, having to come from behind to do so. They conceded in the first half despite dominating the game. As is often the case they made a successful comeback to win the match. That continued their 100 per cent record in the Premier League this season. Five wins have come against Burnley, Newastle United, Sheffield United, Fulham and West Ham United. The Citizens have also won the European Super Cup beating Sevilla on penalties. The only blot on their copybook has been losing a penalty shoot out to Arsenal in the Community Shield but Pep Guardiola is unlikely to have lost too much sleep over that defeat. A win for City will make it 19 consecutive home league and cup games wins. They have only been beaten in one of their last 38 home league games making the Etihad a real fortress. In the Champions League, City have won their last eight matches, scoring at least twice in seven of them. Erling Haaland is again in top scoring form and should be able to prosper in this match.
Crvena Zvezda have a tough task on their hands therefore. They are in the group stages of the Champions League for the first time since 2019-20. Last season saw them lose in the play-off round and then finish bottom in their Europa League group. This time around saw them go straight into the group stages and they will be hopeful of at least finishing in the top three. This season has seen them second in the Serbian Super League. They are four points behind leaders TSC after seven games but lost 2-1 at Cukaricki at the weekend. That was their second defeat in three league matches. Away form in the Champions League has seen them win only once over 90 minutes in their last 17 games. They also lost all three of their Europa League away games last season.
