Manchester City vs Real Madrid Prediction & Betting Tips - Champions League
by Joseph King | in Champions League Predictions
A must-see Champions League semi-final second leg sees Manchester City host defending champions Real Madrid. The winners head to Istanbul for a final against Inter Milan who clinched their place with a 3-0 aggregate win over Milan. Manchester City are seeking a second trip to the final in the last three seasons and to redeem the disappointment in 2021 which saw them lose to Chelsea. This season they are attempting to win a treble of the English Premier League, FA Cup and Champions League. The Premier League looks in the bag now and they take on Manchester United in the FA Cup final. It's this competition they want to win most though after all those millions spent. Real Madrid, meanwhile, are gunning for back-to-back titles and an incredible sixth Champions League triumph in the last 10 seasons. They will have wanted a lead to take to the Etihad where they have lost their last two games. A great tie awaits us on Wednesday evening.

Manchester City - Real Madrid: Form Analysis
It's easy to see why the oddsmakers have this Manchester City squad as such heavy favorites to lift the first ever Champions League trophy in the club's history. They're arguably playing their best football under manager Pep Guardiola since the Catalan took over the reins in 2016. A routine 3-0 away win over Everton on the weekend extended Man City's unbeaten streak to an impressive 22 games, 18 of which ended in victories. Only five times during that stretch did they manage to score less than two goals in a game as the Citizens have racked up an incredible 64 goals during their current unbeaten run. While their away form in the Champions League hasn't been that great with just one win, it's different on home soil. All five of their home Champions League games at the Etihad have been won with 20 goals and just two conceded. They have scored at least twice in each of their last six home Champions League matches. That run began last season when they beat Real 4-3. A repeat of that will delight them on Wednesday evening.
Real Madrid were also able to get back to winning ways on the weekend with a 1-0 home victory over Getafe. Despite a massive 14-point gap between themselves and newly-crowned champions Barcelona in La Liga, Real Madrid have had a successful season with the World Club Championship,European Super Cup and Copa del Rey all being won. Their recent away form has been poor with league losses at Girona and Real Sociedad. Six goals were conceded in those two games and that's worrying ahead of this match. In the Champions League this season, Real Madrid have won three, drawn one and lost in Leipzig. All three of the away wins have come in the UK with Celtic, Liverpool and Chelsea beaten. Aside from the Leipizig defeat, they have scored at least twice in each of their five away games.

Manchester City & Real Madrid Squad Analysis
City boss Pep Guardiola wisely opted for some rotation in the weekend fixture vs Everton, resting the likes of Kevin De Bruyne, Bernando Silva, Jack Grealish and John Stones. Newly-crowned Premier League single season record goalscorer Erling Haaland found the net for a 36th time this league campaign and will lead the line for the Citizens up top. Guardiola will likely stick with his dominant 3-2-4-1 formation with Grealish, Gundogen, De Bruyne and either Mahrez or Silva supporting the big Norwegian target man. Expect Stones to return to partner Rodri as the holding two midfielders with Akanji likely returning into the back three along with Ruben Dias and possibly Kyle Walker as the right center back.
The big news around the Real Madrid camp has been the status of young midfield gem Eduardo Camavinga who came off late in Los Blancos 1-0 win over Getafe on the weekend. While it was initially feared that the Frenchman might be forced to miss out on the trip to Manchester, scans came back with good news as it appears to have just been a minor knee strain. Camavinga should be available for this fixture and will be vying for a spot in the starting 11 after Ancelotti opted to start with a three-man midfield of Kroos, Modric and Valverde in the first leg. Expect the familiar attacking trident of Vinicius Jr, Karim Benzema and Rodrygo to return to the starting lineup after each being rested in the previous fixture against Getafe. Most goals and assists

Our Manchester City vs Real Madrid Prediction
It's hard to see past Manchester City with the form that they are currently in, even when factoring in the championship pedigree of their opponents. They've also put up exceptional results and performances when playing at the Etihad Stadium this season, incredibly putting up nearly double the total amount of goals when playing in front of their home fans. With the visiting Real Madrid also coming into this match on a two game away losing streak, we're going to back Pep Guardiola's side to take care of business yet again. It will be a tough battle though with Real's away form in the Champions League this season seeing them score lots of goals. Our Manchester City vs Real Madrid prediction is for Manchester City to win the match in 90 minutes.
Manchester City vs Real Madrid - Other Interesting Predictions
Over 2.5 goals
City home matches this season are averaging over four goals scored per game. The hosts are capable of covering this number by themselves if they are on top of their game but it certainly wouldn't be a surprise if Real Madrid found the net either. Four of their five away Champions League games this season have seen over 2.5 goals scored in them. Six of the last seven Manchester City matches hae seen this stat come up and each of the last nine at home.
Manchester City -1 European Handicap
There's some value in backing a 2+ goal win for the home team at this price. Man City have been absolutely rampant at home this season and have made it a habit of registering multiple goal victories over their opponents. 10 of City's last 11 home matches have come by at least a two-goal margin.
