Manchester City welcome Porto to the Etihad for the opening Champions League matchday of the season on Wednesday. City, who made it the quarter-final stage last season, are competing in the group stage for the tenth season in succession. They were at one stage supposed to be banned from European competition but an appeal had their FFP punishment overturned. City have never won this competition but their opponents did in 2004 when Jose Mourinho was at the helm. This is Porto's fifth UCL campaign in a row. The usually dominant City have had an underwhelming start to the season, failing to win two of their last four matches. City are unbeaten in their last eight home matches in the UCL, winning seven. Porto travel to Manchester on a winless run of two matches. Away from home, they have won four of their last six matches in all competitions. In the UCL, Porto have failed to win six of their last nine away fixtures. The two clubs last met in the Europa League in 2012 with City winning both legs to an aggregate tune of 6-1.

Pep Guardiola strengthened City's backline over the summer with Ruben Dias being among the arrivals. Dias was signed from Benfica, the bitter rivals of Porto, so may offer solutions to any potential problems City face. Mexican speedster Jesus Corona is the biggest threat for the visitors but we can't see them inflicting damage against a side so good at finding gaps. Porto have failed to keep a clean sheet in six of their last seven matches. We see City scoring at least three in what should be a comfortable win.
