It's the first Manchester derby match of the season in the Premier League with both sides having had a lot of problems this term. Manchester City begin the weekend in fourth place with Manchester United down in 13th position in the Premier League. By the time this match begins on Sunday afternoon, the Blues could be 11 points behind leaders Liverpool. They could also be out of the European qualification positions. It's been a big struggle for Pep Guardiola's side of late with just one win in their last ten matches. That would put many coaches in danger of losing their job but Guardiola was given a new contract instead.
Manchester United are in the bottom half of the Premier League and eight points behind their neighbors. The Red Devils have lost their last two games in the Premier League as they get used to life under their new coach. Manchester City - Manchester United: Form Analysis
A form guide for the last five Premier League games has Manchester City in the relegation zone. Only four points have been earned from those games, three from a home win against Nottingham Forest. Already this season, the Citizens have lost four times in the Premier League, last season only three were lost in the whole campaign. That sums up the problems City have had and at present Guardiola doesn't seem to have an answer.
Big defensive problems for City.
The Blues lost at Juventus in midweek and that followed a 2-2 draw at Crystal Palace. Nine of their last ten league and cup games have seen City concede at least twice and that's one of the many problems that needs to be sorted out by their coach. They have won five of their seven home league games but only one of the last three has been won and there are still nightmares over the 4-0 loss to Tottenham.
A win for Liverpool over Fulham on Saturday will mean they have double the number of points Manchester United have. The Red Devils only have 19 points from their 15 league games but are only eight behind their opponents.
United have only won five league matches this season with six defeats. Away form is a big problem for them with only six points from their seven Premier League games. Just six goals have been scored but only seven conceded. Overall, four of their last six games have seen both teams score.

Manchester City continue to have injury and suspension problems ahead of this game against Manchester United. Rico Lewis scored for City at Crystal Palace last weekend but was then controversially sent off. He's suspended for this game as a result of that.
Also out of this match for the Citizens are Rodri, Nathan Ake and Oscar Bobb, neither of whom will play over this festive period. Manuek Akanji isn't fit yet, nor is John Stones. All of this means that Josh Wilson-Esbrand or Jahmai Simpson-Pusey may start this weekend. Better news for City is that Mateo Kovacic was a sub against Juventus on Wednesday and may start in this game.
Shaw still out for Manchester United.
Luke Shaw had been on the comeback trail for Manchester United. However, the England defender has suffered a setback as he tries to get over the calf injury he sustained. He wont be playing this weekend and Jonny Evans is also a major doubt for this game.
There are likely to be several changes for United and that might mean Marcus Rashford and Joshua Zirkzee begin this match on the bench. Mason Mount and Alejandro Garnacho could start this game for United.
