The women's Manchester derby on Saturday pits Manchester City against Manchester United for the third time this season. City have won both previous encounters 3-1 at Old Trafford in the League and 2-1 at home in the WSL Cup Group Stage back in January. Gareth Taylor's City team are second on goal difference only to league leaders Chelsea, having amassed 40 points from their 16 league games so far, scoring 42 goals and conceding a WSL low of 10. They are also on a run of ten consecutive wins in the WSL, although have suffered a couple of cup defeats in recent times. They were in excellent form last weekend, coming away from the trip to Brighton with a 4-1 victory, Lauren Hemp (27), Mary Fowler (40), Khadija Shaw (69) and Lauren Coombs (78) scoring their goals in what was an impressive display at Broadfield Stadium.

Their opponents Manchester United women have won three of their last five games, but have also lost one and drawn the other. The Red Devils sit fourth in the table with 28 points from their 16 games, level on points with 5th placed Liverpool but with a much better goal difference compared to the Reds (+15 to +4). BBC Sports Personality of the Year, goalkeeper Mary Earps, has been one of their star performers again this season, but the team has tended to come up short in the big games, losing all the games they have played against the top three, bar a 2-2 draw with Arsenal in the early weeks of the season. United will be very much the underdogs in the game with their cross-city rivals.
