Manchester City and Fluminense face off at the King Abdullah Sports City Stadium in Jeddah for the right to be crowned 2023 FIFA Club World Cup champion. A new winner will be named as both English giants Man City and Brazilian club Fluminense are competing in this competition for the first time. 

The Citizens finally made the breakthrough in last season’s Champions League final after a 1-0 victory over Inter. That earned them an automatic spot in the semi-final of the Club World Cup where they easily dispatched of Urawa Reds 3-0. The Sky Blues barely even seemed to break a sweat as they suffocated the Japanese side with 74% of the possession and allowing only two total shots. The victory extended City’s unbeaten run to four games, three of which resulted in wins. With 10 goals scored in their last four fixtures, Fluminense will have to be on the top of their game to limit Manchester City’s star-studded attack. However, the South American outfit might feel they can get at this City backline as they had previously conceded in eight straight prior to the previous win. 

Fluminense left it late to secure a 2-0 win over Egyptian side Al-Ahly in the semi-final. However, they would ultimately show their quality in the second half with Jhon Arias converting a penalty in the 71st minute and John Kennedy sealing the deal in the 90th. The win was the Tricolor’s first competitive fixture since the end of the Brazilian Serie A on December 6. Fernando Diniz’s men had previously lost two in a row to end the domestic season, making the win over Al-Ahly vital to the team’s confidence. The Copa Libertadores champions will face their toughest competition in quite some time here but have been in a good scoring groove. While they may not win, the Brazilians can certainly breach this City rearguard.
