Manchester City returned to winning ways on Sunday evening with a 2-0 win at home to Chris Wilder’s Sheffield United who certainly proved a handful for the Champions. That result means City go in to the new year 14 points off Liverpool and in third position while their guests Everton are up to 10th with 25 points after back-to-back wins under Carlo Ancelotti and remain unbeaten in five games since the dismissal of Marco Silva.  

Now a sterner test awaits Ancelotti as he renews hostilities with an old foe in Pep Guardiola and two of the greatest managers of all-time will go head-to-head on the Etihad turf. The hosts have won two consecutive home games since a Manchester Derby defeat earlier this month and Everton will be hoping to end that mini-run with two consecutive away victories of their own. City have won the last four meetings between these teams on the bounce and the toffees are without a victory here since a 2-1 win back in 2010. 9 of the last 15 clashes between these sides have went the way of City but Everton have managed to grind out a draw in two of their last three visits here.  

Everton have managed to score in each of their last four visits here and although Carlo Ancelotti was victorious in his first away game in charge Everton have lost six of their 10 games away from home in the league this season. City have won four of their last five games at home but in the last five games only Liverpool have acquired more points (15) than Everton’s haul of 11.
