by Ian John | in Premier League Predictions
Manchester City host Chelsea on Saturday evening hoping to continue their excellent run of form of 11 straight wins (6 in the Premier League ). Chelsea come into this game on the back of two impressive away wins, at Aston Villa in the FA Cup and then at Crystal Palace in the league, both by 3-1 scorelines. Under Mauricio Pochettino though they have been extremely inconsistent and this is a game which City have dominated in recent times, winning six of the last seven encounters between the two without conceding a goal home or away.Limited Offer. Manchester City - Chelsea: Form Analysis
Manchester City come into this game in great shape. After securing the FIFA Club World Cup in December, they have returned to domestic action and won every game since. Pep Guardiola's team have been bolstered by the return of both Kevin De Bruyne and Erling Haaland, with De Bruyne absent for most of the first half of the season, and the impact on the team has been huge with City now looking much more dangerous going forward . Still, as Chelsea proved in the first game between the two, City do give you a chance defensively and that will be the one part of the team that Pep Guardiola will be hoping Chelsea won't be able to take advantage of. City have an excellent record against Chelsea over recent times and they'll be confident of improving that still further here.
Chelsea's form this season has been entirely unpredictable. They were superb when drawing 4-4 with City earlier this season and likewise when beating Spurs 4-1 and Aston Villa and Newcastle. Yet Mauricio Pochettino's men have suffered heavy defeats too late, losing 4-1 to Liverpool and 4-2 at home to Wolves. But then they followed that up with a 3-1 FA Cup win at Aston Villa followed by a win by the same scoreline at London rivals Crystal Palace. It is hard to predict what kind of Chelsea performance to expect at times, but if the Londoners expensively assembled squad cannot get themselves up for this game, then questions need to be asked about their recruitment policy.

Manchester City & Chelsea Squad Analysis
Despite a comfortable 3-1 win in the week over Copenhagen in their Champions League Round of 16 first leg tie in Denmark, City did come away from that game with a couple of injury worries. Jack Grealish was a first half substitution after insulting himself in the groin or pelvic region. Jeremie Doku took his place and could deputize here once again. Bernardo Silva was another player who received a knock in the game and while it is not expected to rule him out for a lengthy period, he is rated at best as being 50/50 for the game with Chelsea. More positive news surrounds Mateo Kovacic who could make a return from injury in this game, however it is still a little too early for Josko Gvardiol who won't return from his ankle ligament issue until early March at the latest. Kevin De Bruyne's return from injury though has been a massive boost for City and he will likely be their star man against Chelsea, alongside the freescoring Erling Haaland.
Chelsea have a number of players on the treatment table who won't be available for selection against Manchester City. Wesley Fofana, Reece James and Lesley Ugochukwu are long term absentees, while Benoit Badiashile, Romeo Lavia and Marc Cucurella have all got return dates in early to mid-March penciled in for their return. Goalkeeper Robert Sanchez may be fit for the weekend but it is doubtful he would go straight back into the team given the performances of his understudy Djordje Petrovic. Chelsea's biggest worry is over Thiago Silva who felt an issue in his throat against Crystal Palace and he is rated a major doubt for the game with City. Malo Gusto should be fit for the game however after no injury was found despite also having to be substituted against Crystal Palace on Monday.
