Manchester City vs Brighton Prediction & Betting Tips - Premier League
by Joseph King | in Premier League Predictions
The Premier League returns following the international break with this matchday nine fixture between third-place Manchester City and sixth-placed Brighton. Man City trail leaders Tottenham and Arsenal by two points following a difficult stretch of form. Pep Guardiola’s side has lost back-to-back league fixtures for the first time in almost five years. Brighton have hit their own snag as they’ve now gone four matches without a win across all competitions. They’re even on points with fifth-place Aston Villa for a Europa League spot and one point behind Liverpool for the top four.

Manchester City - Brighton: Form Analysis
A 1-0 away loss to Arsenal in their last outing marked the first time since December of 2018 that Manchester City have lost two consecutive league matches. Overall, the Citizens last lost three of their last four including their exit from the EFL Cup at the hands of Newcastle. However, it’s important to note that all three of those defeats have been away from home. City’s form at the Etihad has been as good as ever and they have a shot here to set a new record with a win. Manchester City are currently sitting on 20 consecutive home victories across all competitions, tied with Sir Alex Ferguson’s 2010/11 Manchester United side. The hosts return to their home stadium for the first time in nearly a month after a lengthy four-game road trip. Man City’s last outing at the Etihad resulted in a 2-0 victory over Nottingham Forest.
Brighton have cooled off after a blistering start to the season. They played out a thrilling 2-2 draw with Liverpool before the international break which saw them have to battle back to claim a point. A Lewis Dunk goal in the 78th minute would ultimately earn them a point but extended their winless run to four games across all competitions. The Seagulls’ last away appearance in the Premier League resulted in a humiliating 6-1 away defeat at the hands of Aston Villa. Brighton matches this season have seen no shortage of goals as they lead the league in goals scored and sit top five in goals conceded. They’re one of only four teams yet to keep a clean sheet in the Premier League. However, they are also one of the five teams to have found the net in every match so far.

Manchester City & Brighton Squad Analysis
Pep Guaridola will be given a huge boost with the return of influential midfielder Rodri following the Spaniards three match domestic ban. His return means that Manchester City have an almost perfectly healthy squad apart from Kevin De Bruyne. The Belgian superstar is expected to miss out until at least New Years as he continues to deal with a hamstring injury. Defender John Stones will be pushing for his first start of the season after logging 63 minutes for the England national team against Italy on Tuesday.
Brighton manager Roberto De Zerbi has a few injury problems to worry about ahead of what is arguably the most difficult match on the fixture list. He'll be without key wingback Pervis Estupiñan with the Ecuadorian still looking at a few weeks on the sideline. The visitors will also have to deal with the absences of midfielder Jakub Moder and winger Julio Enciso. De Zerbi will also be sweating the status of rising star Kaoru Mitoma who returned early from international duty with some kind of sickness. Tariq Lamptey also withdrew from the Ghana side nursing a knock that he picked up.
