A big weekend beckons in the Premier League and one of the battles to be settled on Sunday will be the title race. Manchester City, league leaders, will be at home against Aston Villa, needing a win to bag another league title. City head into this game with 90 points, one ahead of second placed Liverpool, who will be praying for a favor from Villa, currently managed by a Liverpool legend, Steven Gerrard. Playing away at West Ham United in their last game, City dropped points in a 2-2 draw as they put up a great fight to come from two goals down. They even missed a penalty as their five-game winning run in the league came to a halt. For obvious reasons, they can’t afford a repeat of that in this game. With 11 league matches unbeaten ahead of this game, we don’t expect City to stumble in their most important game of the season. Jitters are always expected in such matches, but City have won each of their last eight matches against Villa. They are unbeaten in 12 matches against Aston Villa and with their recent scoring run (21 goals in five league matches) City look set to clinch yet another league title.

Aston Villa’s last win over Manchester City dates back to 2013, and they will walk into this game firmly as the underdogs. They are 14th with 44 points going into this match and can’t finish in the top half. Basically, they have so little to play for despite the focus this game will attract and all the wishes Liverpool may have for this clash. Villa are winless in their last two matches, one of them a loss to Liverpool, and most recently they drew 1-1 with Crystal Palace. In their last three matches, Villa have no clean sheet and this will not be a very good stat for them going into such a game. In four away matches, they’ve returned with just one win, and that was against a relegation candidate – Burnley. Actually their two wins in five away matches have both been against teams battling relegation, the other being a 3-0 victory over Leeds United. They've lost eight of their last 15 away matches and this could be an addition to that run.
