Mamelodi Sundowns had a fine start to the season and will hope to extend that when they get to host Premier Soccer League newcomers Tshakhuma Tsha Madzivhandila on Wednesday. The defending champions opened their campaign with a well worked 3-0 win over rivals Kaizer Chiefs, stamping their authority well in the game and leaving no doubts at all about their targets in the season. Their fourth win in five matches also served the fourth clean sheet in five as they recovered from the earlier loss to Bloemfontein Celtic in the MTN8 Cup. It was also the third time in five matches that Sundown has scored three goals in a game and now the last five matches have produced 10 goals for the champions. The last time the champions played a league game at home was in early September and on that occasion, they thumped Black Leopards 3-0 as they marched to the title. Right before that game, they had suffered a 1-0 home loss to Baroka, but that is their only loss at home in the last 10 league games there. They have seven wins and seven clean sheets in the last 10 home league matches.
Tshakhuma Tsha Madzivhandila on the other hand, are still learning the ropes as they settle in the PSL. Their first ever top flight game came against a fellow promoted side, TS Galaxy, in which they came from a goal down to claim a share of the spoils in a 1-1 draw. TTM got their place in the top flight after buying out Bidvest Wits, after failing to get their way through the playoffs route. Their draw with TS Galaxy left them winless in seven straight matches. Now going to the clash against Mamelodi Sundowns, by far the biggest game of the team’s history, they know it will be tough. With no clean sheet in seven matches, and just one in the last 10, TTM have odds heavily stacked against them. Seven times in the last 10 matches they have conceded two goals or more and their only win in 10 matches came way back in the First Division.
