Mali are ranked 62nd in the world and that's 41 places above their opponents in Group E of the African Cup of Nations. They qualified for this tournament by winning Group C ahead of Burundi. They were unbeaten in that group winning four out of six games and only conceding twice. Whether they could compete in this tournament was doubtful at one stage. They were suspended by FIFA after government interference but later reinstated. They have failed to get out of their group in the last two tournaments but finished third in both 2012 and 2013. Three years ago they were runners-up in the African Nations Championship. Current form coming into this tournament has seen them lose their last three matches but two of those were against Senegal and Algeria, so not the easiest of opponents.

Maurtiania are ranked 103 in the world and are making their tournament finals debut. They qualified by finishing second in Group I behind Angola and two points ahead of Burkino Faso. Home form saw them through with three wins compared to just three points from three away matches. Mauritania have lost two of their last three games and the one they won was over Madagascar who are 108th in the world. Away form the worry with six straight defeats and only two goals scored. Go for a Mali win in this game.
