Both of these teams are ranked 62nd in the world and have only lost two of their last fifteen internationals. They began their group in this African Cup of Nations tournament with a 1-0 win over South Africa. That was followed up by defeat to Morocco but only 1-0. To ensure qualification for the knock-out stages, they had a convincing 4-1 victory over Namibia. That confirmed a second place finish behind Morocco and they come into this game having won six of their last eight matches.

Mali finished top of Group E, four points ahead of Angola. They got off to a great start with a 4-1 win over Mauritania who are ranked 103rd in the world. They were held to a 1-1 draw by Tunisia in their next match. Mali took a 60th minute lead but their opponents equalized ten minutes later. Another victory followed in their final group game to confirm them as group leaders. This time they defeated Angola 1-0 but those opponents are down at 123rd in the world.  They have only won two of their last six games and the tip here is for Ivory Coast to get the win and progress into the quarter finals.
