The final matchday of group B in the Africa Cup of Nations sees pre-tournament favorites Senegal facing off against Malawi at the Kouekong Stadium on Tuesday. Senegal, tied for the lead in their group with four points, will be hoping for an improved performance after their 0-0 draw with co-group leaders Guinea. With the top two in the group and four of the best placed third place teams advancing to the knockout stages, Senegal have all but guaranteed their performance in the next round. Still though, the Lions of Teranga will be looking to win their group and keep the positive momentum going with a win here. Their opponents are sitting third in the group with three points after an impressive 2-1 come from behind victory in their last match against Zimbabwe. In all likelihood, Malawi know they come into this match needing at least a point if they want a chance at progressing to the next stage of the competition.

It’s easy to see why Senegal were considered the favorites for this tournament with the talent they boast. Even with a host of COVID absences in their first two matches, Senegal is still able to field arguably the strongest side in the competition. The depth of talent in the squad coupled with the impressive form of a side that hasn’t lost in regulation time in 13 matches, and we could see Malawi really struggle to get anything out of this match. Senegal has a good chance to win the match while keeping a clean sheet as Aliou Cisse’s side has now gone three straight matches without conceding and come up against a Malawi side who have only scored in two of their last five matches. This is a good bounce back spot for Senegal and they’ll be desperate to get back to winning ways in the last match before the knockout stages begin.
