One of the top matches lined up in the French Cup sees Ligue 1 high fliers Lyon taking on Ligue 2 side Sochaux in the fight for a last 16 berth. Lyon will host this game, and hope to continue with their blistering run of form in 2020/21, having lost just thrice all season. A hard fought win over Rennes on Wednesday was the perfect preparation for this clash and with their Ligue 1 title ambitions well in place, they won’t mind going for a double on a season they don’t have continental engagements. In their last French Cup game, Lyon beat second tier side Ajaccio 5-1 for their fifth win in six French Cup matches. This is going to be the first meeting between the two sides since 2014 when Sochaux was still in Ligue 1.

Sochaux, on the other hand, carry a six-match unbeaten run to this game, after going through three winless outings. They shocked Ligue 1 side St. Etienne in the last round and will be hoping for another upset, against a much stronger opponent. Sochaux have four clean sheets in their last five matches and failed to score in just one of the last six matches. A good run in recent Ligue 2 matches sees them placed just five points away from the promotion places and they will be confident going to this game. Their French Cup journey has just three losses in the last 11 matches and Sochaux will be expected to offer some stiff competition for Lyon.
