Lyon finished in third place in Ligue 1 last season to qualify for the Champions League. They have made a good start to the new season with two wins and a draw and start this weekend in fourth place in the table. With this being the first game of the weekend, a home win will take them level on points with leaders PSG who have a 100% record after three games. Lyon started their season with a 2-0 home win over Amiens with a goal in each half. Their unbeaten run didn't last long though as they went down to a 1-0 defeat at Reims but got back into winning ways with a 2-0 home win over Strasbourg. Lyon have won their last eight home league games and kept seven clean sheets. The only side who have scored against them just happen to be Nice.

Their opponents will remember the 3-2 defeat away to Lyon as it cost them any chance of qualifying for the Europa League this season. They led 1-0 as well but ended up losers and finished in eighth place in the table a point off the Europa League positions. This season hasn't been so successful though and they start this game in 18th place in Ligue 1 with just one point from three games. Including friendlies Nice have gone seven games without a win and three league matches have only seen them score once so far. Their campaign didn't get off to a good start conceding the only goal of the game at home to Reims after just two minutes.  They came from behind to get a 1-1 draw at Caen but then lost 4-0 at home to Dijon with all of the goals coming in the last 23 minutes. They lost eight away league games last season and have gone five without a win. That number should go up to six this weekend as Lyon can get the home win here.
