Lyon vs Dijon Prediction & Betting Tips - Ligue 1

The French Ligue 1 enters Week 2 this weekend, with one of the matches lined up seeing Olympique Lyonnais host Dijon at Groupama Stadium. This will be Lyon’s first match of the campaign, while Dijon have already played, and lost 1-0 at home to Angers. This season, Lyon will have no European football on their calendar after the abrupt ending of Ligue 1 last season left them seventh in the standings. They did however have a decent run in the Champions League last season, reaching the semi finals before falling 3-0 to Bayern Munich. The loss in the Champions league semis was Lyon’s last match and they will be keen on a flying start in Ligue 1, where their last match ended in a 1-0 loss to Lille in March. That loss was only the second time in 10 Ligue 1 matches that Lyon had failed to score but with just four clean sheets in their last 11 league matches, the team will be keen on firming up at the back. They are however unbeaten in their last four home matches in Ligue 1 and have kept three clean sheets in the process, while winning two and drawing two. In their last nine home league matches, Lyon have lost only two, and they have five clean sheets. Head to head, Lyon are winless against Dijon in the last two meetings; last season the teams drew 0-0 in their only meeting and towards the end of the 2018/19 season, Dijon beat Lyon 3-1.

Dijon have managed to go unbeaten in their last two matches against Lyon, and notably when playing at Lyon’s backyard and after a losing start, they will be hoping for another such result. The opening loss to Angers SCO left Dijon 18th in the standings, and having finished last season in 16th, they will be hoping to put things in order early enough. Last season, Dijon went winless in their opening seven league matches, while they won just one of the 14 away Ligue 1 matches they played. The team also proved to be weak defensively and in attack when playing away from home, failing to score in nine of the 14 matches while keeping just one clean sheet. In their last 31 away matches in Ligue 1, dating back to the 2018/19 season, Dijon have managed just two wins, and one of them was against Lyon. They are winless in their last 10 away matches in the league as they head to this clash and have conceded two goals or more in the last four away Ligue 1 matches.
