After a courageous start to their 2024 Euro qualifying campaign, Luxembourg will have a tough task of stopping Portugal in their second match. This Group J match will be played at the Luxembourg Stadium on Sunday. Luxembourg held Slovakia to a 0-0 draw on Thursday which was a big surprise considering they have struggled for points away from home. They are without a win in eight games in the Euro qualifiers, drawing two and losing six, so an upset win here is almost ruled out as a miracle. What adds to their difficulties is the poor record they hold against Portugal. Luxembourg have lost 17 of the 19 matches they played against them, drawing and winning one each. That lone victory has come way back in 1961 while losing six of their last eight Euro home qualifiers indicate that record may not be broken here.

Portugal started their campaign in a bright fashion brushing aside Liechtenstein 4-0 with superstar Cristiano Ronaldo scoring a brace on his world-record 197th international game. It was the first match for new manager Roberto Martínez who couldn't have asked for a better start after Portugal crashed out of quarters in the 2022 World Cup. With this, the Seleção have won six of their last seven Euro qualifiers, losing only to Ukraine. That loss came away from home and Portugal have been impressive on their travels otherwise. They have won seven of their last eight away Euro qualifiers, including a 2-0 win against Luxembourg.
