Second-place LAFC and the 13th-placed LA Galaxy meet for the 20th time to contest the ‘El Trafico’ derby in this Western Conference clash. It will be a neutral venue as the famous Rose Bowl plays host to one of the league’s most anticipated rivalries. This is a rescheduled fixture from February when it was originally meant to kick off the 2023 season for both clubs on opening day. 

This derby clash doesn’t come at the best time for LAFC as the defending champions are experiencing a downturn in form. They’ve now lost their last two on the bounce following a 2-0 away defeat to a Jesus Ferreira-less FC Dallas. LAFC have now lost four of their last six matches and have recorded only two wins in their last 10 overall. However, the Black and Gold still remain in a good league standing. They are only three points behind West leaders St. Louis City and have a game in hand advantage. These two sides faced off once already this season in the Open Cup, with the Galaxy claiming a 2-0 away victors on that occasion.

LA Galaxy fans have been enduring a difficult season as their club is only two points off being rock bottom in the Western Conference standings. Despite their struggles, the expanded playoff structure of the 2023 season means that Los Angeles are only nine points off of ninth-place for a Wild Card playoff opportunity. They’ll have to turn around their form quickly however as we enter the final third of the regular season. The Galaxy have shown some life in recent weeks as they have now managed to secure a draw in their last four consecutive games. Their most recent result ended in a 2-2 stalemate away to San Jose.
