Los Angeles will be abuzz for derby day this weekend when LAFC makes the short trip across town to Dignity Health Sports Park to take on LA Galaxy in the MLS on Sunday. The visitors have gotten off to an excellent start to the 2023 season and are currently the only side in the Western Conference that is still unbeaten after six matches. LAFC currently sit in third place, with 14 points, two points behind the current league leaders, the Seattle Sounders, though they have played one game less than the side at the top. LAFC have drawn two and won four of their first six matches this campaign, with their most recent win coming in their last match against the Vancouver Whitecaps, 3-0 last week. While their record is very good this season, LAFC’s two drawn matches both came in away matches, bringing their record to one win and two draws in three matches on the road. LAFC are now on a three-match winning streak and will feel that they are in good enough form to maintain their unbeaten record in this one.

Meanwhile, LA Galaxy is a long way from the form that saw them finish last season's campaign in fourth place. The hosts are currently second-from-bottom in the Western Conference standings and are yet to win a game after their first six matches. Galaxy lost their opening match 3-1 against Dallas, followed by three draws, and now find themselves on a two-match losing run after they were dismantled 3-0 by Houston Dynamo last week. Of the two matches they’ve played at home, Galaxy lost one and drew the other, scoring one goal and conceding two in that time. The hosts lost the reverse fixture 3-2, and while they may possess the class in their side to beat any team on their day, this looks like one that they are going to struggle to take anything away from.
