The defending MLS champions, Los Angeles FC, will resume their title defense when they take on Austin at the BMO Stadium this Sunday. The hosts have gotten off to a good start this term, currently placed third in the Western Conference with 11 points after their first five matches, four points behind St Louis City at the top and two off the Seattle Sounders in second, though they have played a game less than both of those teams. LAFC was in Concacaf action in midweek and looked very good, beating the Vancouver Whitecaps 3-0 to extend their unbeaten run to four matches in all competitions. LAFC won the reverse fixture 3-0 and will be eyeing up another solid victory in this one. 

Meanwhile, Austin has not shown the type of form that saw them finish runners-up last season and come into this match in 6th place in the league standings with just seven points after their first five matches. The visitors played out a 1-1 draw against a struggling Colorado in their last match, which brings their record to two wins, one draw, and two losses from their opening five games, scoring six and conceding seven in that period. Austin has won one and lost one of their two away matches this season and heads into this one winless in their last two league matches. Going up against the unbeaten defending champions, Austin will have their work cut out for them here and will need to be at their absolute best to take anything from this one.
