The deep pockets of LAFC paid dividends this season, with the exciting midseason additions of Chiellini and Bale bolstering an already strong squad, to earn the Los Angeles side the crown of the best team in the regular MLS season. Fate pitted them against their bitter rivals for their first play-off challenge, which they managed to surmount by beating the Galaxy 3-2 and will now have to face the Texan side Austin. There are many reasons to be optimistic however, and one of them is none other than their impressive home record. LAFC have won ten of their last twelve at the Banc of California Stadium, conceding in seven of those. With regards to the Austin side, they impressed in the regular season and are surely one of the most well-supported outfits of the MLS. After finishing second in the Western Conference standings, Austin had to navigate the obstacles of Real Salt Lake and Dallas, prevailing against both but with difficulty. They needed penalties to edge past the Salt Lake side while they conceded in both of their play-off games. On the upside, they won both of their meetings with LAFC this season, scoring six goals in total in those affairs.
