Liverpool vs Sheffield United Prediction & Betting Tips - Premier League
by Daniel Ngulu | in Premier League Predictions
After three straight away matches, Liverpool will be back at home to take on Sheffield United in the sixth week of action in the Premier League. Going to the game, the two sides have had mixed fortunes, with hosts Liverpool third in the standings with 10 points and Sheffield United 19th with just a point from five matches. Liverpool have had it torrid in the past few matches and will be happy going to this match after a 1-0 win over Ajax in the Champions League. The champions had a bad time out in the Merseyside Derby as they drew 2-2 with Everton. They had a late goal controversially ruled out, and top defender Virgil van Dijk suffered a bad injury. The win over Ajax, which came from an own goal, ended a run of three winless outings and with a growing injury list, they may still have a few hurdles ahead. Defender Joel Matip, Naby Keita and Thiago Alcantara are doubts for this game while Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and goalkeeper Alison are ruled out. In five league matches, Liverpool have conceded 13 goals and with the injuries in the team, they may fail to add to the one clean sheet they have managed so far. Thrice in the five league matches, they have conceded two goals or more, with the 7-2 loss to Aston Villa still fresh. However, at home, they are beasts. They haven’t lost any of their last 61 league matches at Anfield, and after a hard time in recent matches, they will welcome this return to their fortress, and against a struggling side. Liverpool have scored in 36 straight home matches and in the two they have played there this season, they have scored seven goals. However, both sides have scored in Liverpool’s last four league games at home. In nine of their last 10 league matches at home, Liverpool have scored two goals or more but conceded in six of the 10.
Sheffield United’s two meetings with Liverpool last season were the first since 2007. They lost both, and will still go to this game as the underdogs, after a tough start to the season, failing to win any of the six games they have played so far. Sheffield have struggled to replicate their form last season and go to this game on one point after their draw with other strugglers, Fulham in their last match. The last two matches have however signaled an improvement for the team in terms of goal scoring and the Blades would have wished to have Lys Mousset at this point in time. Mousset is out with a foot injury and has not featured this season, which is a key reason as to why they have struggled in front of goal. The team didn’t finish in spectacular fashion last season and going to the Liverpool game, it is winless in eight straight league games and with just three clean sheets in 15 matches, it is bound to get tougher at Anfield. They have four straight away losses in the league, and have failed to score a goal in five of their last eight away matches in the league. Meanwhile, they have conceded two goals or more in five of their last eight away league matches.

Our Liverpool vs Sheffield United Prediction
Sheffield United have had a poor start to the season and have a very tough task ahead of them here. With their away record, facing Liverpool at Anfield will call for a very good strategy to be able to get anything from this match. Liverpool have destroyed teams at Anfield and even though they have issues of their own, we don’t expect Sheffield to rise from their dip here. What may be crucial though, is that Sheffield are slowly getting their attack ticking and they’ll want to pile pressure on this injury ravaged Liverpool side. We expect Liverpool to extend their good run at home but we can’t bet on a clean sheet. A 3-1 win for the champions is a good pick.
