Red-hot Liverpool welcome relegation threatened Newcastle to Anfield for this matchday 17 Premier League clash. The home team have won seven straight across all competitions and five straight in the league as they currently trail leaders Man City by just a point. The visitors will need to be at their absolute best to contain a Liverpool side that has scored a league high 45 goals this season, powered by Mo Salah’s incredible contribution of 14 goals and nine assists. Eddie Howe’s Newcastle were given a bit of a reality check, losing 4-0 away to Leicester after having previously recorded their first win of the season. The Magpies are in serious threat of being relegated to the Championship, a potential disaster for the now richest club in the world after the takeover by the Saudi-backed PIF. 

Newcastle have conceded a league high 34 goals while only managing to score eight, giving them the second worst goal differential of -17. They have yet to pick up an away win and have accumulated a total of just three away points - lowest in the league. Liverpool will relish their chance to run the score up against a vulnerable Newcastle defense but Jurgen Klopp could opt to rotate a few of his starters here as the fixture list starts to ramp up for the holiday season. Points are at a premium for Eddie Howe’s side and they could look to bunker down and limit the damage in this one, with chances for the Geordies being few and far between.
