A top-of-the-table clash between Liverpool and Leicester takes place at Anfield during the upcoming Premier League weekend. Leicester, top of the table with 18 points, are a point ahead of Liverpool, in third, after eight games. The Foxes have won their last six matches in all competitions. Liverpool have won five and lost none of their last seven matches in all competitions. The reigning champions, Liverpool have hardly put a foot wrong in this campaign, one or two bizarre slip-ups aside. The loss of key defender Virgil Van Dijk to long-term injury has not yet impacted their results, with stand-ins performing adequately. However, the Dutchman is not the only key player that they will be without for this encounter. For varying reasons, they will also be without the likes of Mo Salah, Jordan Henderson, and Trent Alexander-Arnold. Jurgen Klopp will be thankful that he has strength in depth and that the club recruited shrewdly during the summer. Diogo Jota has hit the ground running in a Liverpool shirt, scoring six goals in his last five appearances for the Reds. Liverpool have not lost at home in the Premier League since April 2017.

Leicester may feel like they have the talent in their ranks to end Liverpool's long home unbeaten run. Jamie Vardy has been among the goals again, tied at the top of the scorers' chart on eight goals (with Salah among others). Five of Vardy's goals came from the penalty spot, Leicester being the recipients of a league-high eight penalty kicks this season. Away from home, the Foxes are on a brilliant five-game winning streak that includes a 5-2 win over Manchester City and a 1-0 win over Arsenal.
