Liverpool and Everton are battling on opposite ends of the league standings ahead of their clash in the league, which Liverpool will host. The Merseyside derby finds Liverpool at the height of title contention, being second in the league standings with 76 points while Everton are fighting to avoid the drop, placed 17th with 29 points. Liverpool are coming from a massive win, a 4-0 thumping of Manchester United that saw them briefly go top of the league standings. Liverpool have the best attack in the league and that has manifested in their recent matches; in each of their last six games, across all competitions, they’ve scored two or more goals. They have five clean sheets in the last nine matches and have only suffered one loss in the last 10 games. In their last 12 league matches, Liverpool have dropped points only in the 2-2 draw with Manchester City.

Everton have bagged four points in their last two matches and that represents massive improvement. They are coming from a 1-1 draw with Leicester City, having fought from a goal down. Before that they had beaten Manchester United 1-0 for their only win in the last five matches. The results in these two matches have seen Everton stay a point clear of the relegation zone and having a game in hand is an advantage ahead of the chasing pack but that could change by the time they show up at Anfield. Burnley, placed 18th, beat Southampton 2-0 to close the gap and given they face Wolves before Everton takes on Liverpool, it may mean Everton start their game in the bottom three. They have one clean sheet and three losses in the last five matches, and three times in the last five, they’ve conceded two or more goals. It is their away form that’s a big concern, and Frank Lampard will have to work on that ahead of this crucial game. Everton haven’t won a game in the last 13 away in the league.
