Liverpool welcomes Derby County to Anfield for this third round match in the League Cup. The home team are coming off a great 2-1 away win over Tottenham in their last match while the visitors drew 2-2 with Torquay in the FA Cup. Liverpool’s wildly inconsistent season continued as they beat Spurs to add them to the scalps of Manchester City and Napoli. It is almost inconceivable to believe that the same have lost to relegation threatened Leeds United and Nottingham Forest over consecutive matches. The defending champions will be looking for their third straight win for only the second time this season. Liverpool have won six of their last eight matches across all competitions with two losses. They have been excellent at home and have only lost once in their last ten matches with seven wins and two draws.

Derby will be disappointed with their result in their last match as they failed to beat National League side Torquay in the FA Cup. They were two goals up before having a player sent off, then conceded the equalizer in the 95th minute. Derby County have been in decent form in League One where they occupy 7th position and will be hoping for a minor miracle in this match. They will take some confidence from the fact that Liverpool have struggled to string together a series of good performances this season. The visitors have struggled on the road winning just two of their last nine matches.
