Liverpool vs Benfica Lisbon Prediction & Betting Tips - Champions League
by Indran in Champions League Predictions
Liverpool welcomes Benfica to Anfield for the 2nd leg tie in the Champions League quarter final match. The hosts take a commanding 3-1 lead into this match but will be weary as they lost 1-0 in the previous rounds second leg. Their two goal lead means that Benfica will need to win by three clear goals to knock them out. Liverpool had a tough 2-2 draw in their last match against Manchester City in the Premiership and may look to rest some of their star players as it is just a three day turnaround between matches. The last time Liverpool beat Benfica in both legs of a Champions League knockout match, they went on to claim the title in 1977/78 in 1983/84. Liverpool have won their last five Champions League matches against Portuguese opposition scoring 16 goals while only conceding three. They have progressed in their last 12 ties after winning the first leg match.
Benfica have a mountain to climb in this match but will take heart from the fact that Liverpool were beaten in the last round second leg tie at Anfield. They will be hoping that history can repeat itself because in 2006 they did beat Liverpool 2-0 in the away leg of the tie. Benfica come into this match in good form having won 3-1 against Belenenses in their last match. Benfica have only won one of their last nine away matches in the Champions League although that victory did come in the last round when they beat Ajax 1-0 to win the tie. They have only once previously won consecutive away matches in the Champions League and that was in 2011.

Our Liverpool vs Benfica Lisbon Prediction
Complacency could be Liverpool’s biggest enemy in this match as they have a comfortable two goals cushion going into this game. To guard against this they must remember the defeat they suffered in the last round which was their first home defeat of the season. Benfica need goals in this match so they will need to do all the attacking which could leave them open to counter attacks. We are backing Liverpool to lead at halftime and to win the match.
