Liverpool vs Aston Villa Prediction & Betting Tips - Premier League
by Joseph King | in Premier League Predictions
Matchday 37 in the English Premier League sees fifth-place Liverpool playing their final home match of the season when they take on eighth-place Aston Villa. Liverpool still have a shot at completing what would be a remarkable comeback to steal a top four spot away from Manchester United. They currently trail fourth-place United by just a single point, although the Red Devils have a game in hand advantage over Jurgen Klopp’s men. Aston Villa will look to throw a wrench into Liverpool’s plans while still chasing European qualification themselves. Assuming Manchester United finish in the top six, seventh-place will grant entry into the Conference League. Aston Villa are currently even on points with seventh-place Spurs, trailing only on goal differential.

Liverpool - Aston Villa: Form Analysis
Along with the inevitable league champions Manchester City, Liverpool are the in-form team of the division. They’ve now ripped off an impressive seven game winning streak and are looking back to the form which saw them finish with 92 points last season. The Reds are coming off a 3-0 away win over relegation-threatened Leicester on Monday, courtesy of home-grown products Curtis Jones (who struck twice) and Trent Alexander-Arnold. The win marks the fourth time in the current seven game winning streak that Liverpool have netted at least three goals. To accompany their uptick in scoring consistency, they’ve also seen an increase in their defensive solidity. The hosts have now kept three consecutive clean sheets which is a feat they have managed on only one other occasion this season.
Aston Villa were able to return to winning ways after suffering back-to-back defeats with a 2-1 home win over Tottenham last weekend. They continue their excellent results under manager Unai Emery who has completely transformed this team since taking over in October of 2022. Aston Villa will face a tough challenge here, especially considering their recent slump in away results. The visitors are winless in their last three games on the road which includes consecutive 1-0 losses to Manchester United and Wolves. However, overall away results under Unai Emery have been very impressive this season. The Spaniard has guided his team to six wins and two draws in 11 away league fixtures so far. On the whole, Emery is averaging close to two points won per Premier League fixture in his time at the club.

Liverpool & Aston Villa Squad Analysis
Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp is dealing with a few injury concerns ahead of this fixture. Midfielders Naby Keita, Thiago and youngster Stefan Bajcetic are all set to miss out here while defender Calvin Ramsay will also be forced to watch from the sidelines. We will likely see a very similar starting 11 to the one that was victorious over Leicester City. Cody Gakpo is expected to start up top and will be flanked by Mo Salah and Luis Diaz. Curtis Jones should retain his spot in the midfield three while the backline of Robertson, Van Djik, Konate and Alexander-Arnold should feature yet again. Roberto Firmino, who is set to depart Liverpool at the end of the season following the expiration of his contract, is still battling a muscular injury. If Firmino is able to recover in time, expect a second-half substitution to allow the Brazilian to bid adieu to the Kop faithful.
Villa manager Unai Emery will only be missing backup goalkeeper Jed Steer for the trip to Merseyside. The visitors are still awaiting news on the fitness of former Liverpool man Philippe Coutinho who has emerged as a doubt for this fixture after recently picking up an injury. Emery may also be tempted not to tinker too much with his team after the win against Tottenham. John McGinn has partnered Douglas Luiz in the midfield of Villa’s last two consecutive matches. However, similar to his team’s recent match against Manchester United, Emery may opt to bring in either Leander Dendoncker or Boubacar Kamara for added defensive stability.

Our Liverpool vs Aston Villa Prediction
Liverpool are back in the groove and will be expected to continue their top four charge with another win here. They’ve been finding the net with regularity during their seven game winning streak and we expect that will continue here. However, Aston Villa have proven themselves to be tricky customers this season for a number of teams. We expect the hosts to ultimately get the win although we can certainly envision the visitors getting on the scoresheet. Back goals to be scored in this one. Our Liverpool vs Aston Villa prediction is for both teams to score and over 2.5 total goals.
Liverpool vs Aston Villa - Other Interesting Predictions
Over 3.5 goals
Liverpool have scored three or more goals in four of their last seven matches. Additionally, Aston Villa have consistently been able to find the net on the road, scoring in nine of 11 away games since Emery took over. Similar to their previous meeting, another 3-1 scoreline could be on the cards here.
Liverpool -1 European handicap
Liverpool are red-hot at the moment and have rediscovered their goal scoring touch. At Anfield in the Premier League this season, the Reds have scored 45 goals while conceding only 16. Coming off a comprehensive three goal win away from home over Leicester, there’s a good chance they keep up the momentum in front of the fans here.
