Lincoln Red Imps will on Tuesday host Qarabag in the first leg of their UEFA Champions League first-round qualifier. Qarabag will host the return match a week later with the winner on aggregate inching closer to the competition’s group stage proper. Lincoln Red Imps are playing their first match since their Rock Cup final loss in April to Magpies. After winning 12 matches on the trot, Lincoln ended last season with back-to-back defeats. They did however win the National League for a record-extending 26th time. Lincoln have never qualified for the Champions League group stages. They have played 19 qualifiers and have won only six times. Four of those victories however have come with them as hosts. They have won seven of their last eight matches at the Victoria Stadium and will be confident of winning again with this latest fixture.

Qarabag aren’t Champions League group-stage strangers and are favourites to advance from this tie. This will also be their first competitive fixture since May. They have however been active in the off-season unlike Lincoln and have played three build-up matches. The latest of which was against CSKA Sofia where they won 1-0. Qarabag won last season’s Premier League campaign. It was their 10th league crown and the ninth in the last 10 years. Qaçqın Klub have always struggled away from home in Europe. They have managed only two wins in their last nine Champions League away fixtures.
