Two teams competing for a European place in Ligue 1 will do battle this weekend when Lille host Lyon on Sunday. Lille currently occupy fourth place, a Europa League spot, one point off Rennes in third place. Lyon are a further six points behind Lille in fifth place, a spot that does not offer any continental rewards. Lyon are still competing in European competition, of course, and recently picked up a big last 16 first-leg 1-0 win over Juventus. Although the Italian champions were off their game, Lyon deserve credit for the manner in which they took the opportunity at their disposal. It was one of many disciplined, high-energy displays we have seen from Lyon in recent weeks. Four wins from their last five matches in all competitions will act as a reminder to the likes of Lille and Rennes that they cannot take their feet off the gas. With Dembele scoring and the defence flexing, Lyon look quite strong.

Recent encounters between Lille and Lyon have been notably close. In the last six meetings, no team has score more than two goals in a game.
