Two sides that require a win for very different reason will collide this week when Lille welcome Brest to Stade Pierre-Mauroy for a crucial Ligue 1 encounter on Friday. The hosts are currently the first side outside the European qualification places in Ligue 1, in sixth place with 41 points in 24 matches, just two points behind Rennes in fifth. Lille came out on the wrong side of an entertaining match in their last fixture against PSG, which ended 4-3 in favour of the league leaders. While their opponents need a win to keep their European Cup hopes alive, Brest needs all three points in this match for a completely different reason. The visitors are currently in 16th place in Ligue 1, with 20 points in 24 matches, just one point above Troyes and the drop zone. After losing their last match 2-1 to Monaco, Brest has gone four matches without a win, drawing two and losing two. Their form on the road has also been very poor, with a record of two wins, three draws, and seven losses. However, Brest has gotten the better of Lille in recent times and come into this match unbeaten in their last five matches against them, including two wins and three draws.
