Lille’s journey in the French Cup last season was ended by eventual winners PSG at the Round of 16; this time they will be hoping to go a little further. They start their journey at home to Ligue 2 side AJ Auxerre. Lille haven’t had the best of starts to the season but the last nine matches have been a mark of improvement. They are unbeaten in those nine matches and ahead of this game, they secured their place in the Champions League last 16. Such are the matches that should give them confidence heading to the Christmas period. Three of their last four matches have produced over 2.5 goals and they are unbeaten in the last 11 home matches.
Auxerre have been doing well in attack, but they won’t be glad of their performances in defence ahead of this game. In Ligue, they are doing well and will be hoping to avoid defeat here. The last time they met a Ligue 1 side in this competition, they were eliminated - by Olympique Marseille. Going to this clash, Auxerre have scored two or more goals in four of their last five matches. Also four of their last five matches have produced over 2.5 goals.
