Leipzig entertain Real Sociedad at the Red Bull Arena in this round of 32 clash in the Europa League. The hosts had to contend with a difficult group in the Champions League group phase and finished in third place. They suffered three defeats in their six matches which effectively ended any chances they had of progressing. Leipzig have been in very good recent form and have only lost one of their last seven matches which was a loss to champions Bayern Munich. In the Bundesliga they are in fourth place currently occupying an automatic Champions League spot. This will be the first ever match between these sides. Leipzig faced one other Spanish team in a European knockout and won that tie against Atletico Madrid. They have won the first leg of their previous three knockout matches in the Europa League.

Real Sociedad are also in good form coming into this match and have just one loss in their last eight matches. They are currently in sixth spot in the La Liga table occupying the last European spot. This will be the second occasion that Real Sociedad faces German opposition in a European knockout tie. The last time was in the 2013/14 season when they lost home and away to Bayer Leverkusen. They have been lost their last four European knockout ties with the most recent one being last season when they lost to Manchester United in the round of 32 in their last season.
