Leipzig vs Marseille Prediction & Betting Tips - Europa League

Leipzig are currently fourth in the Bundesliga and battling hard to get a place in the Champions League next season. A 3-2 win at Hanover at the weekend took their unbeaten run in the Bundesliga to four games and that includes inflicting a defeat on runaway leaders Bayern Munich. Leipzig have only lost two Bundesliga games at home this season and have had a busy time in European competition this season. They began in the Champions League and had a chance of making it to the knockout stages before a home defeat to Besiktas in their final game saw them finish third and switched to the Europa League. They had a tough tie in the last 32 against Napoli but came out winners on away goals and then disposed of Zenit St Petersburg 3-2 on aggregate to reach the quarter finals, not bad for a side that was in the third-level of German football just four years ago.
Marseille are far more experienced in European competition having won the Champions League in 2010. They are currently third in Ligue 1 just two points clear of Lyon, who they recently lost to, in fourth as they try to get a Champions League place next season. The French side have the third best away record in Ligue 1 with nine wins on the road and they have won their last three away games but before that had gone four without a win. In the Europa League this season, they finished second in their group four points behind Red Bull, winning two, drawing two and losing two but only managed one point from their three away matches The last 32 saw them beat Braga 3-1 on aggregate but lost the away leg. It was easier for them in the last 16 as they beat Athletic Bilbao 5-2 on aggregate, winning both legs.
This should be an interesting tie and the French side may use their European experience to eventually get through. Leipzig are in good form though and only lost two of their last nine at home. Go for Leipzig to get a narrow home win.
