Leipzig vs Eintracht Frankfurt Prediction & Betting Tips - DFB Pokal
by Joseph King | in DFB Pokal Predictions
Third-place Bundesliga finishers RB Leipzig and seventh-placed Eintracht Frankfurt face off in Berlin to determine the winner of the 2023 DFB Pokal. Frankfurt are five time winners of the German cup and last lifted the trophy in 2018. A win here for Frankfurt would see them tie second-place Werder Bremen for the most DFB Pokal successes, with only Bayern holding more. RB Leipzig won this competition for the first time in club history last season and are seeking a second consecutive title. They can become the only team other than Bayern Munich to win back-to-back German cups in the past 20 years. This is the fourth appearance in the DFB Pokal final for RB Leipzig in the last five seasons.

Leipzig - Eintracht Frankfurt: Form Analysis
Leipzig ended the season in fantastic form, securing third-place in the Bundesliga and a spot in next season’s Champions League group stage. Die Roten Bullen won their last six consecutive matches ahead of this cup final, one of them being the 5-1 thrashing they dealt to Freiburg in the semi-final. The defending DFB Pokal champions have now scored an impressive 15 goals in their last five matches overall. Their final Bundesliga match and most recent result ended in a 4-2 home win over now-relegated Schalke. The question for manager Marco Rose and his Leipzig team is whether they can replicate their dominant home form at the neutral venue of the Olympiastadion in Berlin. Leipzig racked up 13 wins in their 17 home matches but managed just seven in their 17 away trips.
Frankfurt closed out their 2022/23 Bundesliga campaign in thrilling fashion. Die Adler netted twice in the final seven minutes to steal a 2-1 home win against Freiburg. The three points would prove to be decisive as Frankfurt’s seventh-place league position guaranteed them at least a Conference League spot next season. If Frankfurt were to lift the DFB Pokal, they would qualify directly for next season’s Europa League group stage. Frankfurt had to endure a brutal 10 match winless run in the Bundesliga before finally snapping out of it with three matches remaining. They’ve also struggled with getting consistent away results and have won only four of their 17 away matches this season.

Leipzig & Eintracht Frankfurt Squad Analysis
RB Leipzig manager Marco Rose has a few injury concerns that he will have to deal with ahead of this cup final. Striker Andre Silva is unavailable after picking up a thigh injury although he was most likely not going to displace Timo Werner up top. Midfielders Dani Olmo and Konrad Laimer are both listed as doubtful for this match although their fitness will be reassessed closer to kickoff. Leipzig were dealt a significant blow to the heart of their defense with the suspension of wonderkid defender Josko Gvardiol. The 21-year-old was sent off in the semi-final and will miss out here. The key man for the Red Bulls is Christopher Nkunku who has put together another stellar season with 22 goals in 40 appearances.
On the other side, Frankfurt manager Oliver Glasner will be without the services of Hrvoje Smolcic, Marcel Wenig and Lucas Alario. Philipp Max, who has just returned from a thigh injury, should be ready to go for this match should he need to be called upon. The main threat for Eintracht Frankfurt is their number nine Randal Kolo Muani. The highly sought-after Frenchman is being linked with a number of Europe’s biggest clubs ahead of the summer transfer window. The 24-year-old has struck for 24 goals this season while also chipping in 11 assists across 52 appearances. Those numbers also include six goals in four DFB Pokal appearances, making Kolo Muani the leading scorer in the competition.

Our Leipzig vs Eintracht Frankfurt Prediction
These two teams both play an attacking brand of football which should make for an entertaining watch in the DFB Pokal final. Manager Marco Rose has turned this Leipzig team around, winning 27 of his 40 matches in charge since taking over in September. For that reason, along with their excellent recent form, we believe Leipzig should ultimately be able to defend their crown. However, Frankfurt possesses a host of dangerous attacking pieces. We can certainly envision them netting a goal here against a Leipzig defense that has been leaky as of late. Therefore, our RB Leipzig vs Eintracht Frankfurt prediction is for both teams to score and over 2.5 goals.
Leipzig vs Eintracht Frankfurt - Other Interesting Predictions
RB Leipzig to win
Leipzig are in scorching form, winning their last six on the bounce. They’ve blasted in 15 goals in the last five matches and have scored at least three goals in three of those five outings. At this price, we still see a good bit of value in backing the Red Bulls to win the trophy in 90 minutes.
Over 3.5 goals
If you still want to play the goals market but would rather a more traditional bet, we’d recommend backing over 3.5 goals. There’s an abundance of attacking talent on the pitch between these two sides which should provide a high-scoring encounter. Both teams have reached this total in three of their last five matches leading up to this final. Odds of 2.50 imply a 40% probability, meaning there is some good value at this number.
