There was no reprieve for Leeds United as their second straight away league game ended in defeat at Wolves and they will be glad to be back home, against Southampton. The two sides will go into round 25 separated by two points. Leeds are 12th on 32 and Southampton are 13th in the standings with 30 points. Leeds’ 1-0 loss to Wolves came after the 4-2 defeat at Arsenal and as they return home, the target will be to get back to winning ways. To do that they will really need to address their defensive issues, having managed just one clean sheet in the last five matches. Goalkeeper Ilan Meslier has taken much blame for the two straight losses but while he was erratic at Arsenal, his own goal as Wolves was largely down to bad luck. The team has also clearly suffered in midfielder Kalvin Phillips’ absence, as they’ve lost their control in midfield. Their scoring touch isn’t messed though – they’ve failed to score in just one of the last five. With eight goals in the last five matches, Leeds have lesser worries forward, but they have conceded eight in the five as well. Southampton played out a 1-1 draw with Chelsea in their last game and will be gutted not to have held on after scoring first. It was their second straight winless outing but a much improved showing, having lost five of seven matches. Just like Leeds, they have one clean sheet in the last five matches, however, their concession has been much heavier. The Saints have let in 15 goals in the last five matches. They’ve scored in four of their last five matches, but in the Premier League, Southampton are winless in the last seven. In the last 12 league matches they’ve managed just one win and head here with three straight away losses and winless in five. In their last five away league matches, Southampton have one clean sheet, scored thrice, and conceded 15 times.
