Leeds - Manchester City: Form Analysis

Leeds United made a bright start to this season after last season's relegation battle. However, their form soon went on a downward spiral with a run of two points from eight games. Late October and early November saw them win at Anfield and at home to Bournemouth. Their inconsistency shone through again though when they were beaten 4-3 at Tottenham after leading three times in the match. Their last two league games have both ended 4-3 and both teams have scored in four of their last five league games. Home form has seen United win one of their last five Premier League matches and they had to come from 3-1 down to win that. They are only two points above the bottom three but have a couple of games in hand.

Manchester City have won 10 of their 14 Premier League games this season and are the top scorers with 40 goals. They find themselves in third place in the table and certainly can't afford to drop points in this match. City lost their last league game before the World Cup break. That was a 2-1 home loss to Brentford, only their second league loss of the season. The other was away at Liverpool in mid-October and the three games played between those two losses were all won. City have only played six away league games this season (compared to eight at home) and have won three of those. They have only lost one of their last 24 away Premier League fixtures and won 4-0 at Leeds in April. The other Premier League between these two clubs last season saw City win 7-0. This is their second game since the season resumed and they beat Liverpool at home in the EFL Cup last week to reach the quarter finals.

Manchester City had the advantage of Erling Haaland not playing in the World Cup and Kevin du Bruyne losing out in the group stages. They put Grealish, Foden and Stones on the bench for the EFL Cup tie against Liverpool but all three came on in the second half. Kalvin Phillips isn't in the good books of Pep Guardiola at present . He was criticised for coming back from the World Cup carrying a few too many pounds than he should. Ruben Dias is out injured and Julian Alvarez is yet to be considered after his World Cup heroics.
