Lecce are on the verge of prolonging their stay in Serie A as they prepare to host Udinese on Saturday. With three matches to go, Lecce are a win away from safety while Udinese are two points below the safety line. Over the last two months, Lecce have really turned up in their quest for survival. Their only defeat in the last eight matches was away to AC Milan, which ended 3-0. They posted three wins in that run and most notably, coming into this encounter, they avoided defeat in four straight matches. In their most recent outing, Lecce brought out their fighting spirit, rising from a goal down to draw 1-1 with Cagliari. A second goal in as many matches for Nikola Krstović was all they needed to claim a point from a losing position. Having managed 37 points so far, Lecce need three more to guarantee safety. Mathematically, they can finish as high as 11th but ideally survival should be all they think of at the moment. Facing Atalanta and Napoli in their final two games of the season, Lecce will want to give their all for a win here.

Udinese are hanging on to their status as a Serie A side but their fate is well in their hands. In their first meeting with Lecce this season, they came close to a first win in four matches against their hosts. Florian Thauvin’s goal was however canceled out by Roberto Piccoli’s 83rd minute goal. Their final two matches this season are against teams directly above them - Empoli and Frosinone. They trail Empoli and Frosinone by just two points. If they can better any of the two sides’ results this weekend, then win any of their final two games, Udinese will be safe. To achieve that, there needs to be an improvement on their performance from the last seven matches. Udinese are winless in the seven games, losing four. The visitors have just one win in their last 11 matches, a surprise one against Lazio. In even more surprising results, all their three away wins in Serie A this season came against giants – Lazio, Juventus and Milan. They won twice in their last three visits to Lecce and that should be a motivator coming into this game.
