The Champions League returns this week with Italian side Lazio welcoming German outfit Borussia Dortmund to the Stadio Olimpico in Rome. It is Lazio's first appearance in the group stage of this competition since 2007. Dortmund, meanwhile, have become an established side in the Champions League, this being their tenth successive appearance in the group stage. Lazio contended for the Serie A title for much of last season before trailing off in the second half of the campaign. They haven't gotten off to the best start this season either, winning only one of their opening three league matches. In their defence, they have played a few of the division's best sides in that time, including Atalanta and Inter Milan. It leaves Lazio ninth in the Serie A table. Dortmund could not compete with Bayern in the title race last season but they remain one of the next-best teams, boasting a cavalcade of exciting young talent. Despite speculation about departures, they managed to hang on to the likes of Jadon Sancho while adding players like Jude Bellingham to their ranks. They haven't had a perfect start to the season, losing two of their opening four matches. One of those games was against Bayern in the Super Cup. In the Bundesliga, they are fifth after three games.

This will be the first time that the clubs have met in European competition for more than two decades. The manner in which Lazio were blown away by Atalanta in their 4-1 home defeat to Gasperini's side has us thinking Haaland and Sancho could cause them problems. Add in Dortmund's experience in this competition and we think the visitors look a good bet.
