Latvia vs Wales Prediction & Betting Tips - Euro
by Devesh Jaganath | in Euro Predictions
The bottom two teams in Group D of the Euro 2024 qualfiers meet on Monday. Latvia are bottom of the table and host Wales who are in fifth place. The home side have never qualified for the finals of a major tournament and don't look like qualifying for Germany next year. They start this fifth match of an eight-game group still looking to earn their first point. All four games have been lost so far and that has left them seven points behind the second place that would see them qualify. Wales have more hope but know they must get a win in this match. They only have four points from as many games and still have the top two (Turkey and Croatia) to host plus a trip to third placed Armenia. After recent qualifications for the Euro and World Cup finals, missing out on qualifying for Germany in 2024 would be a big step backwards for the Welsh side. Winning this match might just give them some hope.

Latvia - Wales: Form Analysis
Lativa and Wales will meet in a Euro 2024 qualifier that both teams need to win. The hosts continued their poor run in this group when being beaten 5-0 away in Croatia on Friday evening. Going 1-0 down in just the third minute didn't help them at all and ten minutes later a second goal was added. That result extended their recent record to six consecutive losses. They are the only team in the group that has yet to register a single point in this group. Latvia were beaten 1-0 by this opponent in their opening match of these qualifiers. They were also beaten 3-2 by Turkey and 2-1 by Andorra in the next two matches. Their form in this competition is in contrast to how they performed at the Nations League, where they finished top of their group. However, that group did feature lower-ranked opponents, such as Andorra and Lichtenstein. Against better-quality opponents in this match, the hosts are the massive underdogs. Only one of their last 24 Euro qualifiers has been won by the Latvians. Three of their games in this group have been away from home. The only game played in Latvia did see them score twice against Turkey so they can be dangerous but just let in too many goals.
Meanwhile, Wales’ qualification campaign has not gone as they would have hoped either. It started well with a last-gasp goal earning them a 1-1 draw in Croatia in their opening match. Then came the win over Latvia, so four points from the first two games. It's all gone wrong for them since then though with two successive losses in this group. They went a goal up at home to Armenia early on but ended up losing that game 4-2. A 2-0 defeat in Turkey followed to put them in real danger of missing out on qualifying for the finals. Their most recent match was a draw with the Korea Republic in a friendly. With those results, Wales have now managed only one win in their last 13 matches, along with four draws and eight losses. They are now ranked 52nd according to UEFA, which is just four places above San Marino at the bottom of the rankings. The Dragons can't fall back on Nations League form to get into the play-offs. They finished bottom of their group in the 2022-23 tournament without any wins in their six games. They know that getting a win in Latvia is vital if they want to avoid missing out on next year's finals.

Latvia & Wales Squad Analysis
The key absentee for the hosts will be Vladislavs Gutkovskis, who will miss this match due to injury. Arturs Zjuzins and Pavels Steinbors both withdrew from the national squad in the lead-up to this match, while Raivis Jurkovskis is the only other injury absentee. Janis Ikaunieks is expected to lead the line in the absence of Gutkovskis.
For Wales, Tom Lockyer picked up a late injury and has now been ruled out from the team selection. Liam Cullen is in the squad and will be hoping to make his national team debut. Daniel James was surprisingly omitted from the selection, while skipper Aaron Ramsey is in line to make his 83rd appearance for the Dragons.

Our Latvia vs Wales Prediction
While Wales are the clear favorites in this match, they have not been at their best over the last year and could find it difficult against this opponent. It's a game that they really need to win so the longer it goes without them taking the lead, the more adventurous they will have to become. A draw really isn't going to help them too much and a loss would be a total disaster. Latvia carry a threat on their home patch, and we expect them to find the net at least once in this match. Therefore, our Latvia vs Wales prediction: Both teams to score.
