The LA Galaxy kick off their 2024 season with the welcome of MLS Cup favorites Inter Miami when the two sides face off on Sunday night. The Galaxy had a dreadful 2023 MLS season, finishing in 13th-place in the Western Conference with a record of eight wins, 12 draws and 14 defeats. It was the first time that Los Angeles had missed out on the MLS Cup Playoffs in four years and only the eighth time in their 28 year history. In response, the front office was extremely busy in the offseason, completely reshaping their roster by spending roughly $20 million to bring in a number of different players. The most notable of which include winger Joseph Paintsil from Genk, Japanese defender Miki Yamane, Diego Fagundez from Austin FC and topped things off by paying a club record fee for Brazilian winger Gabriel Pec from Vasco. Much is expected of this Inter team and there is the thought that they can potentially break records this season if their core of Messi, Suarez, Busquets and Alba can stay healthy. There's no question as to the type of attacking potential that the squad has with the likes of Messi and Suarez, undoubtedly the greatest strike force ever assembled in this league. Questions still remain as to their defensive solidity, however, as they managed only a single clean sheet away from home last season. They were somewhat fortunate to have kept a clean sheet in the opener as they turned the ball over a few times in their own half, only for RSL to be fairly wasteful with their chances.
