Oman will be looking to clinch a round of 16 slot when they take on Kyrgyzstan in Group F of the Asian Cup. Going into this encounter Oman are third with a point while Kyrgyzstan are yet to collect a point. Kyrgyzstan are taking part in this competition for only the second time, having made their debut in 2019. Back in 2019, they went into Match Day 3 of the group stages needing a win to advance and they did it, beating Philippines 3-1. They have to repeat all that if they are to keep hopes of advancing alive here. In the run up to this game, Kyrgyzstan failed to score on both Match Days and consequently suffered defeats to Thailand and Saudi Arabia. It was much tougher in their last game, falling 2-0 to Saudi Arabia and finishing the game with nine men. Aizar Akmatov’s early red card really did them in and by the time Kimi Merk followed for an early shower, they were already trailing. Stefan Tarkovic will have to plan for this game without the two. Under the circumstances, looking to improve on a run of just two wins in eight matches spells an uphill task.

Oman played to a 0-0 draw with Thailand in their last game of Group F. That result was some improvement from their 2-1 opening loss to Thailand. For them to think of advancing from this group, Oman must post a win here. That may still not be a guarantee, but it would put them in consideration.
