The Turkish Super League returns this week after over a month’s break, and one of our featured matches will see Alanyaspor head to the Konya Metropolitan Municipality Stadium to lock horns with Konyaspor on Sunday. Konyaspor is in fourth place, seven points ahead of Alanyaspor, and go into this match as the clear favourites. Konyaspor broke a five-match streak without a win in their last match before the break, beating Kayserispor 2-1 away from home. Their form this season has been decent, with six wins, six draws, and two defeats, only one of which was on home turf. Konyaspor’s strength this season has been in defence. They’ve only let in nine goals in 14 matches, which is the best defensive record in the league this season. Notably, Konyaspor did not take too much time off, playing three friendly matches during the World Cup break, winning two and losing one. The home side will be raring to go as they look to close the five-point gap to league-leaders Fenerbahce. At the same time, three points will put them level with Galatasaray in second and firmly in the mix for one of the two UEFA Champions League spots available.

Alanyaspor comes into this one in ninth position with 17 points from 14 games. Unlike their opponents, Alanyaspor has one of the worst defensive records in the league, with 24 goals conceded so far this season, which has made wins that much more difficult to come by. They have won just four of their 14 matches, along with five losses and five draws. This puts them in an uncomfortable position, only four points above the relegation zone. Alanyaspor has played one competitive match since the break against TFF 1 League side Eyupspor in the fifth round of the Turkish Cup but was unable to put the second-tier team away in regulation time. They conceded another two goals in that game and needed a 113th-minute goal by Idrissa Doumbia to see them through to the next round. Heading into this game, the Alanyaspor players may still be feeling the effects of going the distance in midweek and may find it difficult against an opponent that will have the crowd behind them and are likely to come flying out the gate early in the match.
