The German Bundesliga enters matchday 18 with relegation-threatened Koln hosting fifth-place Borussia Dortmund. Koln find themselves in a precarious position as they sit 17th in the table with a total of 11 points with half of the season already in the books. The Billy Goats trail 16th-place Mainz on goal differential and sit three points behind Union Berlin for complete safety in 15th. The hosts are coming off a 1-1 home draw with Heidenheim in their last fixture. It might ultimately be seen as a disappointing result as Koln were the betting favorites yet were unable to really take control of the match. The draw moved Koln’s home record to 1-3-4 on the season and was only the team’s 11th goal in the competition. Koln could consider themselves fortunate to only be three points from safety considering their anemic goal-scoring production in the 2023/24 campaign.
