Juventus vs Lyon Prediction & Betting Tips - Champions League
by James | in Champions League Predictions
Juventus look to overturn a deficit when they host Lyon in the second leg of their Champions League Round of 16 tie this week. The first leg, played back in February 2020, went Lyon's way, the French side getting a 1-0 win on home soil, much to the shock of the fancied visitors. Juventus had a strong group stage, a group that featured Atletico Madrid, winning five of their six unbeaten outings. Lyon had a far less certain progression from a tough group with four relatively evenly-matched teams, the strongest of which was RB Leipzig. Two wins and two draws earned them enough points to reach the knockout stage. While Lyon were impressive in that first leg, they beat a very off-colour Juventus. They dominated possession and completed more passes but these statistics don't illustrate how inept their attacking was. To get an insight into that side of things, glance at how many of their 15 attempts at goal were on target and you'll find only one troubled Lyon goalkeeper Anthony Lopes. The scorer that night, Lucas Tousart, won't be playing. In January, he had agreed a transfer to Hertha Berlin that would see him move in Summer 2020. It means that he is no longer at the club to participate in this match but keep an eye out for Bruno Guimaraes, a Brazilian screening midfielder who asserted himself superbly on the first leg. Understandably, Juventus will look to Cristiano Ronaldo for inspiration.
No player has scored more goals in UCL knockout stage history than Cristiano Ronaldo's 65. He has scored 23 goals in the Round of 16 stage alone. This season, he's been slow to get off the mark in this competition with only two goals in the group stage. Another player to consider in the goalscoring market is Memphis Depay. The Dutchman scored five goals in the group stage and, after recovering from a serious injury, is fit for this contest. It's hard to tell how Lyon will perform after the Ligue 1 season ended prematurely. However, the form of Serie A champions Juventus in recent weeks (with only two wins from their last eight matches) should inspire belief. We suggest backing Memphis, a set-piece specialist who takes penalties and free-kicks, to score anytime.

Our Juventus vs Lyon Prediction
Speculation has been mounting that Juventus are considering replacing Maurizio Sarri despite the manager delivering yet another Serie A title. His future rests on the Champions League but we wouldn't be confident backing the Italian side with the way they have been playing in recent weeks. We suggest backing Memphis to find the scoresheet in what should be a fascinating contest.
