Juventus’ quest to return to glory in Italian football was dealt a huge blow as the team was docked 15 points over transfer irregularities ahead of their Serie A match against Atalanta. Dropping from third place as a result, Juventus will start this home game in 12th place with 22 points while Atalanta have 34 points in fifth spot. Their 2-1 win over Monza in the Coppa Italia was a recovery from a heavy loss in their last Serie A loss to Napoli. Now they have to restart their race for a top four spot, with a 12-point disadvantage. Their Serie A run at home isn’t bad though; they have five straight wins, and all those have come with clean sheets. They haven’t lost a home game in the league in the last 12 matches. Their recent matches against Atalanta have been cagey affairs, with Atalanta winning two, and Juventus one but most have been low scoring, four of the five ending in under 2.5 goals.

Atalanta are coming from a resounding 5-2 win over Spezia in the Coppa Italia. Earlier, they had thrashed Salernitana 8-2 in a Serie A game. They come into this game unbeaten in their last four matches with three straight wins, but they have no clean sheet in their last seven games. In six of their last seven matches, they have conceded more than a goal. All the seven matches have produced over 2.5 goals. Atalanta are only out of the Champions League spots on goal difference and will be hoping to heap on Juve’s misery as they seek three points in their top four quest. Both teams have scored in their last six league matches, and they have just one clean sheet in 10 Serie A matches.
